Everyone's excited about the promise: chat, coding, agent sessions, live previews - all in one window. Less context switching, they say. And on paper, that's true.
But "one place" isn't the same as "one calm place." For accessibility, the real question isn't whether features share a surface. It's whether each mode has a clear state you can perceive, focus that lands somewhere predictable when you switch between them, and a reliable way back after an agent does something on your behalf.
If I'm in a chat thread and an agent edits files in the background, where am I when it finishes? Does my screen reader announce what changed, or do I have to go hunting? When a preview refreshes, does focus jump, or stay put? Can I tell - without sight, without guessing - which mode is listening right now?
These are answerable questions. They're just not the ones that show up in demos.
One app can absolutely reduce switching. It can also become one very crowded room, where everything happens at once and nothing announces itself. Fewer windows, same chaos - just better hidden.
The integration isn't the win. The state clarity is.
