Silence should only create a candidate boundary. A thinking pause and a finished turn can look identical to the microphone.
The semantic gate is useful, but I would trust the pipeline only if speech arriving after a false decision can still cancel the queued model call - and any resulting action. Otherwise the system has improved its guess without making the failure safe.
