ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage allowance starting in December 😬
The change covers Plus, Pro and Business subscriptions as Work’s agent features move into the main ChatGPT experience. Usage across ChatGPT and Codex will be counted in tokens: the information processed and produced by the model. The model and task determine how quickly the allowance is consumed; more capable models and harder tasks generally draw more. Instant chat will stay outside this allowance.
OpenAI says it is preparing the transition to limit workflow disruption and expects most users to face resets no more often than today. Settings → Usage will show the remaining combined allowance and when it resets. Once the limit is reached, users can wait for a reset, upgrade, or purchase credits for eligible features.
