FreeCAD
Open-source parametric 3D CAD for real-world objects: constrained sketches, editable model history, technical drawings and open file formats on Windows, macOS and Linux.
FreeCAD is an open-source parametric 3D modeler for designing real-world objects. You can revisit the model history and change parameters, build 3D geometry from constrained 2D sketches, adjust dimensions and create technical drawings from a model. It is used for product design, mechanical engineering and architecture.
The desktop application runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and reads or writes open formats including STEP, IGES, STL, SVG, DXF, OBJ, IFC and DAE. Its workbench-based environment includes tools for mechanical design, BIM, CAM/CNC and finite-element analysis; the official website describes CFD support as experimental. A broad Python API supports scripting and extension. The core application is free, with no licensing fee or required AI API subscription.
Developed by the FreeCAD Team and contributors. The official source repository is licensed under LGPL-2.1; the full license is available at https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/blob/main/LICENSE . FreeCAD uses OpenCASCADE for geometry, Coin3D for its 3D scene representation and Qt for the interface. C++ and Python are the principal repository languages.
The official icon and Part Design screenshot come from the FreeCAD source repository. The icon was rendered proportionally from SVG to PNG, with no cropping or redesign; the screenshot is unchanged. The source files remain available through the repository. This catalog profile shares the original project, does not claim to have developed it and does not imply endorsement. No local installation or CAD workflow test was performed for this listing.
