Barney is an AI agent designed to grow around a stable core rather than rewrite itself after every failure. Its operating cycle is planning → tools → observation → analysis → strategy shift; the cycle itself is fixed, while the external ‘body’ in ~/.barney can accumulate skills, tools, MCP servers, error-handling rules, and successful scenarios for reuse. The project keeps analysis tied to files, execution results, and logs, leaves failures visible until they are addressed, and quarantines new skills before trusting them. In preliminary Terminal-Bench testing with a local qwen3.8 model, Barney handled openssl, nginx, and fix-git — 3 out of 3 tasks.
