Excalidraw
A free, open-source whiteboard for hand-drawn-style diagrams, wireframes and visual explanations. Draw shapes, connect them with arrows, and export to PNG, SVG or editable .excalidraw files.
Excalidraw is an open-source virtual whiteboard developed by the Excalidraw project and contributors. Its hand-drawn style suits quick system sketches, wireframes and visual explanations. The infinite canvas includes rectangles, diamonds, ellipses, arrows, lines, free drawing, text, images and shape libraries.
The editor supports dark mode, localization, undo/redo, zoom and panning. Drawings can be exported as PNG or SVG, copied to the clipboard, or kept as editable .excalidraw JSON files. The public web app also offers local-first browser autosave, offline PWA support, real-time collaboration and shareable read-only links; the project describes collaboration as end-to-end encrypted. Collaboration and encryption were not independently tested for this listing.
Try the free editor at excalidraw.com without creating an account. The screenshots show a simple two-step diagram created in the actual editor and its image-export dialog. Browser storage can be cleared unexpectedly, so save important work to a file. Excalidraw+ is a separate hosted paid offering; no purchase or subscription is included here.
