Pixelorama
Pixelorama is an open-source pixel-art editor for sprites, tiles, and animation. It runs on desktop platforms, with a browser build for trying it on the web.
Pixelorama is a free, open-source pixel-art editor and animation toolkit for artists and game makers. The project is built with Godot 4.7.1, with most of its code written in GDScript, and is released under the MIT license.
For drawing, Pixelorama includes tools and input mappings that can be assigned to the left and right mouse buttons, pixel-specific line and scaling tools, indexed color mode, and palettes you can import or make yourself. Its layer system supports clipping masks and non-destructive effects such as outlines, gradient maps, and drop shadows. It also supports 3D layers and community extensions.
Animation is handled in a timeline of layers and frames. The official feature list includes onion skinning, frame tags, audio synchronization, and drawing while playback is running. Pixelorama can import animations from Aseprite, Photoshop, and Krita, then export spritesheets, GIFs, and video. For game assets, tilemap layers can be rectangular, isometric, or hexagonal; project metadata can be attached to layers, frames, and cels. A command-line interface can automate bulk exports.
The official site lists downloads through Steam, itch.io, GitHub Releases, GitHub Pages, and Flathub. The web version is available through GitHub Pages; the repository marks early-access web builds as unstable and recommends stable releases for everyday use. Pixelorama also includes automatic backups, localization, and import/export for common image formats.
