Rnote
Rnote is an open-source vector drawing app for stylus sketching, handwritten notes, and annotating documents or images.
Rnote is a vector-based desktop app for sketching, handwritten notes, and annotating documents and pictures. It is aimed at students, teachers, and drawing-tablet owners, with an adaptive interface focused on stylus use. An infinite canvas and fixed or continuous page layouts support both freeform notes and document-like work.
The app supports pressure-sensitive strokes, configurable pen styles, shape drawing, and object selection. Colors, backgrounds, page formats, and stylus shortcuts can be customized. A built-in workspace browser, tabs, autosave, printing, drag-and-drop, and clipboard support help manage notes.
PDF, bitmap, and SVG content can be imported. Documents can be exported to SVG, PDF, or Xopp; pages and selections can also be exported to PNG or JPEG. Rnote includes a CLI for basic .rnote file operations. The project is written in Rust with GTK4, and the official project page lists Linux (Flathub), Windows, and macOS installation paths.
The upstream documentation notes that the native .rnote file format is still unstable and may change between versions. The project is mainly maintained by a small volunteer team.
